I was just pootling along, when a nice french man came up alongside me and asked if he could ride with me for a bit. So we upped the pace a bit and chatted for a while and agreed to part company at the next town as he was meeting some friends for lunch. Unfortunately for me I forgot that the next town involved climbing a very steep hill. He has been cycling all his life and me for just 18 months. I would normally climb this hill in bottom gear but he was a bit more powerful, so I tried to keep up. So we were climbing this 9% gradient at between 18 and 20kmh for nearly 2km. When we arrived at the top he started to chat again, but I could barely breathe and my legs were on fire. Credit to him though, I think he did slow a little for me.
I have got to say that it did make me feel good to meet another nice cyclist and good to be pushed.
