I woke this morning to find the wife in a right strop, just heading out of the door saying "car's knackered I'm getting an Uber!". Then the door slammed. Didn't even have time to ask what's wrong with it!

Just had a look. Engine started fine, and driving it seemed ok. I couldn't work out what was so bad she had to get a taxi to church though.

It's got some water ingress problems that I haven't got round to finding yet so I went to have a look in the boot. But I couldn't because the catch wouldn't release. We've had this before, the wiring loom into the hatch was broken but it had been fixed the other year and hadn't recurred. Still, I didn't think she needed the boot this morning.

Then I noticed there was a constant high pitched whine coming from the dash. A constant electronic tone, like a beep that doesn't stop. And it was still going when the ignition was completely off. Drew a blank on google because everything was about transmission or gears or belts. If the engine's off and the car isn't moving it isn't mechanical.

So, we've got some water leak(s) - rear passenger footwell is soaking. We've got a non opening boot, and we've got a really weird noise. Seemingly nothing that would stop the car being driven, though the beep would drive me insane.

I'll try disconnecting the battery, to see if that resets things and kills the beep.

You would think the Lord would have provided the means to attend church.

Any modules in the boot, that'd be my first thought, short circuiting across terminals or connection ? Pretty sure there are components, modules visible when I remove.the rear light covers in my boot. Different car but principle may be the same.

I do wonder about people who just sit there and pray and think that what they want/need will just appear because they prayed for it

even the Bible doesn't say it works like that!!

Which one?

@Dadam on our note there's a beeping noise if the keyless ignition switch is not fully turned off and also the alarm won't lock the car so worth checking that ignition is fully off.

Re the damp footwell on rear passenger side we also that but only discovered it yesterday so yet to investigate.

Also if any weight on the seat and seat belt is not in use that can set an alarm off

@biggs682 It's a 09 plate 1.4 Acenta, no keyless system. Just a regular key and ignition barrel.

Come to think of it though the car was a little reluctant to unlock with the remote, so I'm wondering if the key battery is low.

You'd think there would be a visual warning as well though not just a constant beep. It wasn't a constant beeping "beep beep beep" it was an unceasing tone, just "beeeeeeeeeeeeee.....". It carried on when the ignition was off key out and door closed.

Might be worth checking under the seats
They sometime have electronic stuff under the seats - and if it is wet then bad things could happen

That's a later one than ours, worth trying a new cr2032 battery in the fob .

The first thing I will be checking is the door drain holes .

Do you have any water in the boot? I have not checked in ours yet.

Cheers, yes we have water in the boot. A few weeks ago there was loads... but I couldn't easily check today. There's some coming in somewhere that's for sure.
