A glimmer of light, it's not like it's £5k or 10k. If it goes bang it will be annoying but not the nend of the world. If you get 6 months or a year, then it's still cheap motoring

I got my octy fixed...
Do I let it go just struggling to get my deposit back....

If he wont refund then you can buy the car, paying at least £500 on a credit card for the consumer protection.

Then reject it an hour later because of the fault and if he wont refund the CC company are liable for the full amount.

In fact, if you tell him you plan to do this he may fold as he wont be able to stand up to Visa or Mastercard.

Do you really think a rough small time dealer is going to take payment by credit card?
I expect the deposit is gone... but perhaps a lucky escape on a smoking motor

I've not found one yet that wouldn't, although they all grumble about it.

I am clutching at straws a bit, but if you have a better idea...?

Presumably the OP has a receipt for the deposit, which also mentions thenreg number ofnthe vehicle? If so, that puts the seller in a slightly awkward corner. The OP now has a financial interest in the vehicle, effectively a co-owner, so the dealer can't lawfully sell it to another customer. Again though, enforcing that might be more expensive than the cost of losing the deposit. Nevertheless, its an angle.

Had mine for 3 years till someone crashed into me and wrote it off (still drove) In and out of muddy fields when we had our own land and transporting sheep 😂 Capable car that didn't let us down even though it was loaded to the back nines day in day out!

Before the Note crash my partner had a Xtrail(older boxy shape). It was superb, a little agricultural/utilitarian maybe. On a run it wasn't too bad for fuel for such a bit car and had a decent turn of speed above 40. Very little went wrong with it over the years she had it, it took some getting used to the dash layout at first. The bonnet catch failed one morning and as she went down the slip road of the M62 and the bonnet flung up taking out the windscreen effectively writing the car off(yes it was properly closed). There's a decent breakers for Nissan I think around Farnworth nr Bolton.
