I used to work as a Hospital Engineer (Bethnal Green, years ago). One day we got a call from the operating theatre: they urgently needed an electric drill. They were fixing a chap's badly broken leg, and needed to drill holes in some medical meccano stuff which they were going to pin his leg with.
So we sent off a drill.
Half an hour later, all the lights went out
Five seconds later, there's frantic 'phone calls from the theatre.
It transpires that they'd sterilised the electric drill by putting it in a steam-powered autoclave (a sterilising thing) - and plugged it in whilst it was still sopping wet.
And these are the guys we trust with open heart and brain surgery!!B)
