I will add that speed is the number one cause of road crashes in the US and many of those on the interstate highway system and comparable roads with impatient and inattentive driving having a major impact. In the UK it is mainly the inadequate road system coupled with impatience. Crashes in the US occurring at higher speeds are more likely to result in fatalities. If I am driving on an interstate (motorway) at 80 MPH, I will be in the way of traffic reaching 100 MPH.
But, it is not a competition, no matter what some of the posters want to make it; one crash or one death on the roads in the UK and the US is still one too many.
In my experience, granted from the 1990's when I lived and worked there, very few drivers exceed the speed limit on the Freeway. I managed to let myself get caught once on I90 - 5mph over the limit cost me $100 on the spot, payment taken via credit card by the patrolman in the breakdown lane.

Aside from being a modern day highwayman he was very pleasant and chatted quite freely once he realised I was a Brit. Not as friendly as the CMP patrolman who let me off with a stern warning ^_^

Actually not. I won't quote the relevant data, not sure it's relevant on THIS UK thread, Y'all cañ read about it here https://plainroadsafety.com/guides/leading-causes-of-traffic-deaths

It's a flawed study: the road death causes aren't mutually exclusive, and so the root cause of a road death isn't that easy to determine.

Its typically drivers attitude not just to cyclists but to anything that holds them up from travelling at speed, which probably is in excess of the speed limit. The brake wear on cars of Germanic origin must typically be excessive.

Also they fail to understand the separation distance issue when passing because when stopped or very slow moving cyclists closely pass them.

I truly detest this phrase!!! Does anyone say it about drivers? About teens stabbing people???

However ... if this is the same video I've seen: flippin' heck. SOME cyclists really don't give two hoots about that zebra crossing! (and by some I mean at least several dozen, 90% of the riders filmed).

Can any local/laarndoners comment on that specific location? When I cycle in central london I see a few mutton-heads, but never SUCH consistently SELFISH and apparently ILLEGAL riding as in that video. Did they just film all day until they found 10 seconds that looked REEEEEEEALLY bad? What's occuring?!?

But we ought to have the maturity to reflect on our actions as a demographic group esp forum members who are the more enthusiastic end of the spectrum!
