Rooibos (Redbush) Tea is quite comforting in a red wine kind of way. Try some other herbal teas, they may hit the spot. You could spend 3 months trying them all.

Try to avoid too much sugar, after cutting out the alcohol your body will be craving for it. When I stopped drinking I just started eating loads of sweets.

Effervescent Vit C or an electrolyte drink may give the impression of 'pop' but without the sugar.

The first two weeks are the hardest, after that you will wonder why you bothered. Good luck.

wowser! I'm giving that a try! With the coriander, which we get for 59p a big bunch

Oops, consomme has two "m"s.

Two other useful ingredients are...

1) Tabasco sauce
2) Fresh lemon juice.

By the way, I will have to drink a whole lot more of this stuff before I feel up to a FNRttC. Mind you, a swig of hot consomme from a Thermos, in the middle of an inky nowhere, does have a certain wild appeal.

Another target for 2010? Oh dear...
