About time too! Don't know what the situation is in England or Wales, but finally in Scotland they have entered the 21st century and come up with a number to dial, country wide, if you want to report something to the Police but it doesn't justify using 999.

I lost count of the number of times I used to see things when I was driving around the country, but was unable to report them unless it was an emergency, because I didn't have the number of a local-ish Police station to phone. Can't understand why it has taken so long for this to get off the ground*.

* Actually, I can. I sometimes get the impression that they don't want us calling in to report trivia. It bumps up the crime figures and sometimes uses up resources that they don't have.

It's been around in England for a few years. I thought it was already UK-wide.

It costs 15p per call, without (much) stereotyping - that's probably why it's only just gone up north.

To a member of the emergency services, then most non-emergencies will be regarded as "trivia". What I was meaning when I mentioned reporting non-emergency incidents was the likes of minor accidents, drivers on phones etc.. Perhaps trivia was the wrong word to use in my post, but I was assuming it would be read in context.

I can never remember the number, I always think it's 111.
I have the 0845 non-emergency number stored in my phone so I ring that if I need to.
Slightly OT, I once got up and discovered our shed had been burgled so I called 999 and was told to ring the local station - the number didn't work, so I had to look it up, finally got back through and the same person answered the phone!!!
