Funny you should say that. I moved to the Wirral (West coast) about 9 years ago and we get a great view of the North Wales coastline with mountains further back. For ages I kept saying "I'm going to ride around there" until one day I did, what a disappointment! The area near the coast is very industrial in parts and pretty bad for traffic. However, travel a couple of miles inland and it changes, once I discovered where to avoid I think there's nothing wrong with N.Wales.

Yeah Ive been on a geography fieldtrip - dont get me wrong, the mountains are really nice, but as soon as you get away from that scenery it just feels cold, grey and stuck iin the 1800's

I effing love north wales.

I love it too, but it is grim, think Llanberis Pass on a dark, heavy, overcast day. That's really grim. But it's grim in the same way that Glencoe is grim or Corrieyarrick is grim.

Isn't that the attraction of the place?

Wales is nice when it's sunny, but when it's wet and gloomy...the slate and stone makes it look grim.

Llanberis pass is ace - stayed at a climbers hut a few times at the foot of the climbs - club weekend training - and in all weathers....

Well, eveything wasn't grey when I did the Marin MTB trial. Full of pines, streams, god knows what else ... oh and some lovely biker who had decided to 'use the toilet' where I wanted a little wee wee.

I love it.

It's still there - we go down to Gronant on a regular basis (in-laws have a rather nice caravan) - don't confuse it with Presthaven Caravan Site though.....

Prestatyn's been up an down in the last 10 years - some works gone into improving it significantly in the last 5 years. Rhyl is crap in a few laces.... OK on the east side, but west is grim.

I love Snowdon area - we've stayed in Betsw-y-coed a few times in the Waterloo Hotel - lovely and fantastic food.

My fastest speed was achieved on Frank coming into Betswy from Llanberis direction - 60 mph in a group of us....unreal.....

Since nobody can apparently spell it - Betws y Coed (it's almost like another language)

North Wales is lovely, there are some places I try to avoid - like Mynydd Isa, which seems to have a disproportional number of cyclist haters according to my experience.

I'll be riding into N.Wales on Saturday morning probably.
