How long would it take me to get from belfast to giant's causeway and back. Would it be a 2 day ride or longer?
It might be possible to do it in two days, but you could not do the area justice in such a short time.. The north coast has many attractive sights, too many to be packed into just two days. Also the north east corner is hilly, so progress would not be fast. An overnight on Rathlin Island is worth considering too.

Coming over to Ireland this summer for a month of cycle touring, ever see anyone camping in the wild? Are Irish farmers happy with it from anyone's personal experience? Wales was very good last week when I was there.

Most of the area is agricultural land, I am afraid. But you can try the links-land between the ocean and the road/farmlands. Campsites is your best chance.

I am pleased that the Antrim Coast is now very popular = money to the long suffering Northern Irish people. When this road was my playground in 2001-2003, there was hardly any traffic there. I now understand I was lucky.

Kirstie I have found the best and cheapest way from Engalnd to Ireland is by Sail and Rail http://www.seat61.com/NorthernIreland.htm best explained here.

Campsites vary in price but average around £7

http://www.moyle-council.org link for Cushendall Caravan and Camping Park £5 per night Telephone (0)28 2177 1699

http://www.watertopfarm.co.uk/ Link for campsite outside Ballycastle £5 per night Telephone ( 0)28 2076 2576

http://www.ballynesscaravanpark.com/ Link for campsite in Bushmills £7.50 per night Telephone (0)28 2073 2393

All prices current as of today 1.45pm

So as you can see its not expensive at all for campsites, always best to call ahead and book or at least get a current price from them yourself.

There are many many more campsites in the Northeast just do a google for them.

I think you'd be ok camping wild, I've saw evidence of people camping at both Murlough Bay and Whitepark Bay, think as long as you don't light huge fires or anything you'll be ok, I've also saw people camping in front gardens etc so don't be shy in asking, it's a small community here and most people will know somebody that knows somebody if you get my drift. Like others and myself have commented, the coast road on a Sunday is busy, people leave Belfast, drive up the coast to Portrush, have an ice cream and drive back to Belfast again. Any other day of the week you are fine. Stick to the coast road though and don't follow that cycle route 96 or what ever it is, I've no idea who thought it up but it's the worst roads I've ever been on and they've no views or anything, it's basically country lanes not even a farmer would use. Cushendun to Ballycastle via Tor Head is also best avoided unless you like 20% climbs one after the other.
