I recently got a pair of these GTX shoes and am amazed by how much water they've let in. Thinking that I've missed something when putting the cleats in... are the unused bolt holes supposed to be filled?
Unless you sealed the big hole that you foot goes through then you'll get water running down your leg into the shoe. Overshoes help and some folk use a cut up rubber glove to create a seal.
I have some Northwave winter boots and though they are great at keeping my feet warm, they're no better than normal shoes for keeping my feet dry in proper rain. I'm of the view that waterproof shoes/boots are actually a complete waste of time - the Northwave boots could be made just as warm, but without the goretex membrane for less.
