i bought a pair of Northwave Aerlite 3 shoes and wore them today for the first time with my Look pedals which are only around one month old.

With my old shoes there was zero play from the cleats bar the normal lateral movement. However with the new shoes, (same cleats/pedals )there's a lot of play, up and down and they seem very loose side to side. I can't see that it has anything to do with how tight the cleats are screwed in as i have done them up as tight as they will go and anyway, it doesn't seem to be the cleats which are moving.
I am stumped. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

What were your 'old' shoes and why have you changed them after only a month?

The pedals are one month old. The old shoes are over 10 years old. Diadorra ones.
The play comes form the front of the cleat when it is in the pedal. With the Northwave shoes, when clipped in, i am able to move the very front of the cleat up and down. Its as though there is a compatibilty issue.

Does anybody here experience any 'clicking' or 'play' on the upward revolution when turning the pedal? At the LBS we found that with various combinations of shoes, Shimano and Look pedals, new cleats, that on each combo there was always some space, however small, between the cleat platform and the pedal which was noticeable when you pulled the shoe up with the hand.
I had thought that there should be zero play.
The combos we used were:
Northwave Aerlite shoe with Look classic, new cleats, new shoes, new pedals.
Look pedals and cleats with Sidi shoe.
The above shoes with Shimano 105 pedal and cleat.

Each of these had some movement going on.
It hasn't turned into a terrible interesting thread but someone may have some input?
Thanks

I have northwave shoes and look cleats/pedals, and have no movement between shoe and cleat, and when clipped into the pedal, I have only the 4.5 degree +/- of float that comes with the cleat (grey cleat). I'm using Look KéO Classic pedals.

The Red Cleats have something like 9 degrees of float.

The black ones, have no float.
