*Not cycle related* Disorder or disability?

I am too, only got diagnosed when at uni, cycled about 8 miles to the assessment much to the bemusement of the educational psychologist who said i shouldn't have the balance / coordination to have learnt to ride a bike.

Precisely. I have Autism (Cannot say Asperger's Syndrome because of political correctness), and people with my condition should not be able to understand sarcasm, but I do. A form of my Autism is cycling. I get really annoyed it I am unable to do it (with an acception of holidays).

People with disabilities or disorders or anything else wrong are still normal people, they're just more unique than the rest of the normal people.

What is wrong with the term Aspergers. As far as I am aware it is a perfectly valid term with no negative connetations.

You must live in a very PC environment id Asperger's Syndrome is not an acceptable term.

Things can be taken too far with PC acceptability and it's ironic that most of the enforcers of policical correctness are those who profess to be ,the most liberal minded.

Of course she didnt mean anything offensive by it but was it the best term to use?

I thought that Asperger's had been ruled as an incorrect term. It is not that the Asperger's' family dont want to use the name anymore, just that it isnt allowed anymore.
On documents, you always see 'Autism'.

You might have leapt to a conclusion that is unsupported by facts.

Just because you haven't seen the term written down on forms does not mean that it has been banned.

It's widely used where I work. There is no ban in Bradford.

I worked in mental handicap hospitals (that term itself is no longer used, I guess) about 30 years ago, for a few years. There were 'patients' (aka 'residents') who'd been admitted in the 1920s and 30s with diagnoses like "cretin" and "feeble minded". Cretinism points to a condition, but there were also women who were put there because they'd had illegitimate children, nowt else, and now were so institutionalised that the idea of going out into the community was scary. So, things have moved on a bit.
