How did you get on at the Night Ride, Pedal Pusher? Hope you had a good time!

Here is my report from the helper's view ...
It was a great turn-out, only one no-show at the start despite the rather "interesting" forecast ...:rain:
There are some photos from the start and the breakfast on the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling flickr group - hope some of the riders will post up more!
The rain ended up speeding the riders along the route :bicycle:, with rain lashing down at the half way snack stop ... so nobody was lounging around admiring the moon-lit scenery and the summer solstice dawn breaking :rain: for too long.
The first ones arrived for breakfast at 2:30 :hungry: (a full our before the ETA we were given by the ride leaders ). They were literally hot on the heels of the chef - the amazing Ian who was completely unflappable and did an brilliant job coping with pretty much a full fried breakfast for 50+ on his own! :bravo:
Luckily most of the buffet was more or less ready apart from the refrigerated and the hot food and drink, and all seemed to be in a good mood and very patient despite the conditions they had experienced out on the ride. Chapeau!
Then there was the equally amazing Lynne, who manned (:girl:) the hot food buffet and prepared the coffee and ... and ... all with a big smile despite having pretty much come straight from another event ...:bravo:
The "late shift", Sidse and Johann, arrived at 3:30, when the first riders were originally expected  and pretty much took care of the tidying up of the remains of the feast between them (50-odd lots of dishes, cutlery etc) :bravo:. The last few departing riders seemed to have enjoyed themselves so much they even helped putting away the tables and chairs! :bravo:
Around 5:30 everything was sparklingly clearn, we locked up the hall and we cycled home in the early morning :sun:. Typcial! Rain? What rain?

And last but not least, thanks to Scoosh otp :hugs:who seemed to rather enjoy leading a group - which DID turn up at 3:30 on the dot :bravo: (AND helped with the tidying).

Got to bed at 6:30, and am now contemplating the next few EdFoC events ... vs. getting some more sleep ...:tired::thumbsup:

Lovely Coastal Night Ride, despite the weather ... :rain:

Thoroughly enjoyed leading a group (thanks for the invite, T ) and had the great privilege of leading a largish group (of mainly ladies ) , none of whom had ridden at night before  . We had a fairly 'relaxed' pace and (finally ;) ) managed to find the Gullane Bents and the fabulous feed stop. The 'trouble' with being the last group was that we had to finish all the cake :hungry:; this was not hard to do ... ^_^

The first couple of kms into the wind and rain past the Gullane golf course was not very pleasant :rain: but it didn't last long.

At the end, we were all together (2 had had to get a lift in the van ) and the general chat, laughter and sense of adventure completion was great to hear. :wahhey:

The amazing breakfast back at the church was yet more icing on the cake of a great ride.

Thanks to all who did so much to support us riders - we really, really appreciated it. Telemark, please convey yet more appreciation for your wonderful team. :bravo:

I had a great time thanks Telemark. It was a good turn out with a good cross section of riding abilities. A big thanks to all the team for all the hard work much appreciated. One thing I took away with me for the next one - their will be a next on won't there - is to invest in a better head light. At one point coming back in the driving rain in the pitch black I really couldn't see where I was going, wing and a prayer stuff

Congrats all!
I firmly believe that the future of cycling lies in local promotion gettinmg people on their bikes and events such as this will do that) rather than big Government plans.
What's more, they're good for communities, low cost to do and pretty easy to organise.

Chapeau!

Escorting a couple of 'out of Edinburghs' up to Leith Walk, it turned out they were heading for Waverley Station to get the 0518 train back to Stirling ! :bravo:

I admire their dedication and commitment to the EdFoC ! :wahhey:

Thanks, Scoosh(ie) :hugs: , without the ride leaders it wouldn't have be possible ... and it is a huge responsibility to take a bunch of strangers of unknown ability out on the road in the middle of the night!

It was great to see so many ladies turning up for this event, looks like we pitched the distance right to make people feel they could do it, together with the safety net of the repair/sweeper van.
During a couple of other EdFoC events yesterday quite a few of the Night Riders turned up, they all seemed to have enjoyed their night out despite the weather ... one even described it as a "magical" experience .

Thanks for the appreciation, on behalf of the team, I'll pass it on. :thanks:

And in answer to Pedal Pusher - yes, I am pretty sure there will be another EdFoC next year, with a strong possibility of another night ride. :wahhey: Please do sign up for the newsletter on the website if you want to be kept informed, it'll only be very occasional, no 3rd party getting hold of your e-mail, and you'll be the first to find out about any plans...

P.S> Please DO fill in the EdFoC survey on the website if you have attended any event(s), to help make it better next year... you can enter a prize draw if you do
