Maybe we're talking about slightly different places, but on one side there's a perfectly fine bus (and cycle) lane, and only on the going-out-of-town side is there a shared pavement (which I never use preferring the road). If you're on that side, why would you need to cross over ? And if you're on the bus-lane side, you'd use that surely?
Ah you mean the Portway cyclist? I must admit I do take the path there so I can watch the river as I'm riding along, but I've taken the road if I'm in a hurry occasionally.

Ah I see - along the A4 - I mean alongside the Downs going towards (eventually) Cribbs etc.

There isn't any cycle path on either side there, just the shared bus lane going into towns you mean going over White Tree Roundabout? The clip I was talking about on the Downs I thought he was going past the water tower towards Stoke Bishop, hence the students on the cycle path.

Could be, didn't even know there was supposed to be a lane on that bit - clearly pointless if there is one

Give me a week and I could film and edit together a compilation showing drivers running reds, parking in cycle lanes, speeding, not indicating and generally failing to follow the Highway Code.

I wonder if I could then use it as proof that there's not point in the local council investing in facilities for motorists because clearly, as you could see from a four minute, selectively edited video, all drivers are ungrateful scofflaws who don't believe the rules apply to them, hold up traffic with their rush-hour congestion and don't even pay Road Tax so why are they even allowed on the road in the first place? :cursing:

According to his Twitter, without family and friends you're "a buesinssman". Which is about the most accurate thing I got from his clip.

There should be a way of the law taking effect for people like him, who seemingly pride themselves on their lack of knowledge.

Mr Prasad seems to come from Iran, a country riven by western meddling and a CIA-backed coup, it is the duty of all right-thinking people to support this refugee who faces the tyranny of, er, footage of cyclists being silly that he spends his life uploading to Youtube like a sanctimonious ball bag.

FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE BALL BAGS

and I didn't much care either way.

Road Tax does not exist. It was abolished in 1937. You mean VED maybe? Im a cyclist and I pay £335 VED a year for 2 cars, so yes a high percentage of Cyclists do pay VED. When im commuting to work on my bike my car is at home, so Yes I am paying to use the roads.
There is no requirement to use Cycle Lanes. Rule #63 of the Highway code, look it up. Do you get upset at Buses not using Bus Lanes too?
The way you overtook that cyclist whilst complaining about him not using the cycle lanes is disgraceful, careless driving at the least, and whilst using a handheld device for filming too?!?!?!?!?
Ok ill give you the Red light jumpers, but then its not like you never see drivers jumping red light either, do you? Or perhaps Bristol drivers are perfect..... Ok except those who use handheld devices whilst at the wheel..........
Yup Helmets, Hi Viz, Insurance, mot aren't requirements of law, You want to see my tyres, racing slicks, man they are good through the corners though!! BTW I have 3rd party insurance, wear a helmet and wear bright coloured clothing.
How did you expect the cyclists to pull over for an emergency vehicle when they were behind it????
The speed of Light is 671 million Miles Per Hour, that guy looks like he was doing about 25 mph.............
Pavement cyclists, yes the bain of every serious cyclists lives, they give us a bad name, just like Drivers who use handheld devices whilst driving, Drunk drivers, Drivers who jump red lights, drivers who speed, drivers who park on the pavement.......................etc etc etc.....
As for dangerous overtaking, its pretty poor to pull over to your right to try to force the cyclist into the right hand lane like that, the Police would call that Dangerous Driving. Guy cycling down the middle of the road......
Your using your handheld device again, I really hope its not a Phone as thats 3 points and £100 fine.
Speed limits apply only to Motorized Vehicles. And to which what speed were you doing, as you were clearly catching the cyclist. eh doh, the flashing 30 sign was for you!!!!
Cycle paths again, rule #63. Look up Rule #163 and there is a small picture that shows you how you, as a driver, should pass a cyclist. Its the full width of the road, not 6 inches like you did. Careless driving again.

If your going to spout off about cyclists not obeying the Highway Code at least try to be squeaky clean yourself, which your far from. Speeding, Using a Mobile Phone while Driving, Dangerous Driving, Careless Driving to name but a few. I recon you've racked up 20 points easy over the course of your videoing antics. Perhaps for your next video you could do one on the less than perfect Drivers around you. Regards, Ewan.

Regarding the road tax old chestnut - I do have to say that as soon as anyone says "road tax was abolished in...." despite being factully correct, albeit in a very narrow sense, they have actully lost the argument before it's even started. I'm a cyclist but for me the difference between "vehicle tax" (or "excise duty" which means "tax" ) and "road tax" is irrelevant, and unless you are prepred to first explain what "hypothecation" means, you'll get nowhere.

Much more likely to pursuade is "how much extra tax do you think I should i pay for not driving today?". Or "how much road tax should my 4 year old daughter pay to ride her bike" or "how much more tax than a hybrid petrol car would be fair for a bike?" "Lorries, and for that matter, bentleys pay more tax than you - should they get right of way?" ... Or "isn't tax proportionate to wearing out the road - so a bike would be fourpence a decde then" etc

The term Road Tax is indeed factually incorrect. That's the point. If your going to debate, argue or berate such a point, first you have to know what your talking about. If the Guy had said "Cyclists dont pay VED" then yes he would be, to a point, factually correct.
