I don't think it's worth you reading most of what went before that. It's mainly childish bickering between two or three people rather than intelligent debate and discussion..
Well of course you're right it is mainly childish bickering, a simple answer would have prevented it, but it's like a child covered in chocolate with an empty biscuit tin in his hand claiming it wasn't them. However, if you don't think there's a point to it then you've missed it.
Whenever anyone mentions controlling immigration there are those who like to shout it down as racist. In fact, it's the inference of Adrian's statement that mrandmrspoves took, and I don't think it's an unreasonable one to conclude, especially in context of the preceding exchange. Even his last explanation going right back to it being "that" analogy he was referring to means the statement "is" referring to something "the poster doesn't want to say" in this specific instance as he admits. The post before that picked up on what about the ships made them more or less pleasant, and of course the infrastructure wasn't the "right" answer for Adrian, so he implies in his snidely way that it's racism. mrandmrspoves seems to be an oxymoron of a person who can't exist in some peoples eyes, a person who thinks we need to "control" immigration but isn't racist. Just as User1314 shouts "Scaremonger" like Pavlov's dog when I mention the term, it's the same thing.
It's a tired line of the left that has plagued this country for years, it goes right back to Enoch Powell and his "Rivers of Blood " speech, which is well worth reading in it's entirety if you haven't. I'm sure Adrian will recall I started a thread on it somewhere else, so it is an interest of mine. Along with my views on countryside management, it fits nicely into his pigeonholing of me.
Of course was Adrian not implying racism was behind mrandmrspoves analogy he simply had to say so, and why the answer on infrastructure wasn't reasonable. He could expand on his opinion that we have plenty of capacity. He hasn't because there is no other explanation, and his argument we have plenty of capacity is laughable, when we already have housing, and land shortages, with the infrastructure creaking at the seams in the areas where economic migrants are attracted to.
I quite understand why Adrian would rather "I leave him alone" There are those on here that like nothing better than to put down and discredit argument as narrow minded bigotry, when pushed or picked up on a casual chink in their argument they become completely intolerant of another point of view, becoming quite childish, rude and dismissive, rather than discuss it. The tactic is to turn the thread into a childish bickering match to claim the other poster has derailed or trolled the thread. It certainly has the effect of making quite reasonable people fear sticking their head above the parapet with their views, lest they be branded racist scum.
mrandmrspoves has made a valid point, even if it was a clumsy analogy (which I don't think it was). The problem with it wasn't the content, but that it left itself open to what has followed, I only joined in as Adrian and clarion seemed intent on their mission of ridicule. However, I see clarion is being taken to task over on another thread for a similar lapse of logic.
