If the driver has less than 2 yrs service he's not protected against unfair dismissal so he can be fired very quickly. Frankly even with more than 2 yrs' service I would expect a tribunal to support an employer who dismissed such a dangerous driver after forming a reasonable belief in his guilt following a reasonable enquiry into the matter. We won't know what the driver said to his employers.

Well that was my thinking after one too many big lorries had squeezed by my elbow

Just my tuppence worth, but I seem to get on fairly well with motorists. I'm forever being waved out of side streets and such.

The scariest thing about cycling on the roads, in my opinion, is the fact that no matter how aware and vigilant you are of other motorists, the only real control you have relates to those in front and to your sides. There's bugger all you can do about the lorry driver coming up from behind, texting his wife.
This ^^
I had a recent close overtake that caused me to fall off, and I'm still feeling the bruises 4 weeks later. I do get cautious now when I hear a large vehicles approaching from behind, but thankfully 99.9% of drivers are fine and give me plenty of room, but there is nothing I could do to prevent it happening again.

Been there, nearly identical vehicle. I had 150m of parked cars to my left. By the time he'd done I was living with 6 inches each side of my road bike's bars, then I realised he'd got a caravan too.
At the next T junction I had a word. The response was 'Oh sorry' before flooring it.

There are no road laws in this country, and the scumbags are starting to realise it.

I wonder if there is a thread re this incident on any HGV forums.
Probably not, given that the flat bed looks like a 7.5 tonne van type variant, and not what any self respecting lorry driver would call an HGV.. They can be driven by anyone who passed a car test prior to 1996 (?).

Some of the comments on there are staggering.

Those people are driving around, towing caravans. I couldn't believe that thread.

To throw this into the bunch, this is the closest overtake I have ever had:

It isnt as scary as the lorry, but I think they were both the same proximity. Of course, a lorry passing you like that and a car doing it are totally different things.

The difference is that your pass was a result of driver error, magnified by road furniture that 'forced' the driver toward you. The OP video is a driver deliberately driving close to a cyclist to teach them a lesson.

I hate that type of road narrowing, there is some close to where I live and it's normally the most dangerous part of my daily ride, but to deliberately drive at another human is different.

Yes, its very different when it is done deliberately. I didnt bother reporting the above video to the police although some on here would. I didnt because I felt that the police wouldnt do anything. I have had more serious incidents where the police are reluctant to do anything.

The fact that the driver has been fired from his job isnt going to stop him driving like that. I am just glad that the cyclist involved has taken something like that up with the police. Hopefully he either gets a ban or a massive fine.
