Hi
I got what I thought was a really good deal till I tried to get prescription inserts for the glasses
Vision Express quoted £290. 00 which is ridiculous please any ideas on where to find cheaper inserts failing that any ideas on replacements as these will have to go back.
£300.00 for prescription cycling glasses is extortionate, shame on you Oakley.

I just had a new pair of Oakelys sent off for new prescription lens. I went with just tinted lens because photochromic cost about twice as much. I am having mine tinted but not tinted very dark. My thinking is if I like them and need a darker tint I can just get another pair of lens later. It would also give me an extra pair of lens in case I damage one. My lens will not be made by Oakley and it will be a little more trouble having to change lens but that is something I feel like I can tolerate for pair of lens that cost about $125. There may be some other online lens makers there you can check with. I checked online and got a good price but went to my local optician to see what he could do and his price was even lower than the best online price I found.

Thanks for the advice.
Can a general high street optician do this as I have m frames. If I can gen prescription with a a slight tint that would be great without me selling a kidney to finance it.

Thanks again for the advice.

You need an optician that stocks Oakley I think - try an independent perhaps. Still going to be around £200 I would think just for frames...NOT all Oakley frames take direct glaze either I expect

I think most opticians can send them off if they can not make the lens in house. From what I recall of the conversation with my optician is that some of the lens require either special material or some special process if they are a tight wrap around. He told me if it isn't done the glasses bother most people, something about a fish bowl effect and he said about every one that he has had made and were not done with that process did cause problems. Just looking at the m frame I would think it would apply to them but I am not sure. The Flak Jackets I got are two piece lens and don't look wrapped quite as tight as the m frame. I would feel confident the optician would know about this.

I tried vision express and was quoted £290.00 which made me think about sending these back.
I'll take your point on board and seek an independent optician to hopefully lower the cost.

In my experience, independents are much more expensive than chains! Was the £290 for just the glazing? Plus the frames - how much were they?. Forget Oakley look at optilabs if ok with inserts rather than direct glaze

I think Oakley frames mostly look gash anyhow!

Thank you are optilabs cheaper , I was under the impression I'd still need to carry a bag of different lenses around all the time.
That was the main reason for going for oakley photochromic so I wouldn't need to have more than one pair.

Please advise

They have inserts and then you can change the lenses. They may do some photochromatic ones, look at the website!

I was quoted £205 for photochromatic at the London bike show for Sunwise. Unfortunately, the company's website is still down

Ok
Well my glasses turned up today, unfortunately they didn't fit like the demo pair in the showroom.

Still a smashing pair of glasses just hoping Optilabs can sort out the problem with the fitting .

I'll update tomorrow after I visit there showroom.

Hey ho £7.00 in postage wasted but we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Morning All
Just left the optilabs showroom after getting my glasses fitted correctly.
I must say how impressed I am with the service given I spent over 30 minutes having my frames fiddled with hoping to get that perfect fit.
The lady there advised if I'm still unhappy with my lenses come back and they'll give me another pair free of charge.
You can't beat that for service, what a wonderful shop.
Will definitely be buying there again.

Thanks Optilabs.
