Son no. 1 took part in the World Coal Carrying Championships a few years ago, which is just down the road from us: http://www.gawthorpemaypole.org.uk/?page_id=21
One of my mates used to be a catcher at the bottom of the hill, along with other volunteers from Brockworth Rugby Club. His job was catching out of control people, not cheeses. I once asked him what he would have done if he'd seen someone my size hurtling towards him. He said he'd have stepped to one size and let the hedge do its work! Just to make it clear, I have never entered this event and will never do so.Cheese rolling videos on YouTube are always good for a laugh.
any who takes part must be absolutely bonkers.
Not a competitive event, but I was once involved in "Be Nice to Nettles" week.
Why are they hitting a Chelsea pensioner with a conker? Bit harsh or what? This Sunday, 10th October, is the World Conker Championships in Southwick, NR Oundle...
