One of my mates used to be a catcher at the bottom of the hill, along with other volunteers from Brockworth Rugby Club. His job was catching out of control people, not cheeses. I once asked him what he would have done if he'd seen someone my size hurtling towards him. He said he'd have stepped to one size and let the hedge do its work! Just to make it clear, I have never entered this event and will never do so.

A cousin of mine once held the World Record for Backwards Walking - he was in the Guinness Book of Records for at least a couple of years, probably back in the 1960s. He didn't even know he'd competed in a record attempt, still less broken it, until the next day there were reporters outside the door. All he knew was that he'd entered a daft race for a laugh and won a few pints of beer!
