In the movie, The Sound of Music, the Von Trapp family escape by crossing over the mountains into Switzerland. In real life, the Von Trapps took the train to Italy.

If they had gone over the Austrian mountains , they would have ended up in Germany — right by where Hitler had his mountain retreat.

On original release of the Sound of Music, the name of the Von Trapp family was changed in all cinemas in the East End of London when it was realised that it had another meaning in Cockney rhyming slang.

When the first Mersey tunnel was excavated they started (as planned) from both ends but failed to meet in the middle. The error was not noticed until both teams came out at 'the other' ends.
After much heated discussion they decided a) to keep just one and b) which one it would be. They then had to bring back all the excess waste and stuff it back in the hole........that took over one week but everyone was paid overtime rates so were quite happy.
