Popular Irish bookmakers Paddy Power was originally formed as a joint venture between Irish comedian Paddy Kielty and American actress and former Hart to Hart star Stephanie Powers.

However, Paddy Kielty sold his share some years ago to the vet from Emmerdale. Fortuitously this avoided any need to change the company name.
Powers retains her share to this day and has a cameo role in their current television advert.

Co-incidentally, one of their biggest rivals in the gambling world was also the result of a celebrity partnership between former rugbyist Bill Beaumont and television pundit, Jimmy Hill.

The Liver building in Liverpool was named after the architect Fred Liver. The builder had a brother in law who was a scrap dealer and had bought a job lot of big decorative birds so he got them cheap and stuck them near the top using the 19thC equivilent of super glue.

It is twice the size that it should be, go and look at the original plans to see.

Nobody told the builders to stop, it is estimated that if the building inspector hadn't been traveling down the Mersey in boat when he saw the structure reach an alarming height they would still be building it today.

I remember a colleague from Sinngapore who was victim of some racism, mostly based around the idea that Singapore has water recycling, for obvious reasons. The people making racist comments about 'drinking your own pee' apparently hadn't thought about basic facts of geography and water supply...
