This is a tradition "borrowed" from the Tour de Yorkshire after Arthur Shuttleworth was allowed to lead the inaugural TdY through Wetwang.

Unfortunately, yes. He hasn't raced professionally since although he still holds the PR along Scarborough seafront on Strava.
