Waitrose earned its name in the early 1900s.
In those days it was a store catering to the communist clientele and shoppers were made to wait in rows, or Waitrows, while the single cashier was put against the wall and shot.
Following the 1968 Sainsbury's mercenary attack the store was taken over and rhe name changed to Waitrose.

The original line-up of the Village People included an air steward. His clothing wasn't distinctive enough so they made him a black leather joy boy instead.
The "Village People" were originally the "Conurbation People" but they couldn't get stages big enough so downsized.
