Come on guys, she could have been badly hurt. It's no yolking matter.

Down from a duck. It makes sense to me. Good job you weren't crossing an aquaduckt, it'd been even more down and you'd have been pancakes. A shout of 'Hoi' sin sorts them out, guaranteed to make a duck run.

If he runs over the duck the old Bill will be after him!

Personally, Eider braked straight to see if the duck started to get out of the way and winged it from there. ;)

A serious point . . . if I may . . . when riding towpaths or any route near water it is almost always the case that any duck on land will head for the water if it feels itself threatened. Unfortunately, being stupid it will not feel so threatened until the last possible moment. Do not regard eye-contact as any guarantee of sense. If water is to the right of you, a duck on your left will stare at you as you approach with every sign of placid unconcern, only to make a terrified bolt for the water directly under, or even through your front wheel. I have not only been 'offed' by this phenomenon, I have had my bike totalled by it as well. Nowadays I suffer from anatidaephobia.

As i said in my opening post there was only a split second to react, and reacting the way i did is what threw me off. I avoided hitting what is a fairly large bird, perish the thought of it going through my front wheel, cosequences could have been far worse.Sorry to hear you suffer from anatidaephobia.

Only the Gary Larsson version: "Anatidaephobia - the fear that somehow, somewhere, a duck is looking at you." :-)
