I had managed to talk myself out of buying a new road bike and persuaded myself I was happy with my Specialized Secteur 2013. That was until I went into a bike shop in another town that I hadnt visited before. I was travelling through on the way back from a business meeting and curiosity got the better of me when I drove past the big shiny new premises. They only seemed to stock Cube, Eddy Merckk and Ribble brands. I got talking to the owner about possibly upgrading and I set an imaginary budget of £1500 hoping there would be nothing that took my fancy. He only bloody offered me this bike for £1500 and it's the last one in stock in my perfect size before the new 2014 models come in:

It's a full carbon bike with Ultegra components, DT swiss wheels and Ultremo tyres. The rrp is £1899 and I'm having nightmares about the wife would do to me if I came home with it and dreams of speeding down flat roads on dry days.

Don't worry about it. Let's face it: flat roads, dry days, Northern Ireland, it's not going to happen, is it?

Waste of your jointly hard-earned money- listen to your conscience...
Nothing is wrong with your present bike and the Cube won't be any better than what you've got... nope, it's just not worth getting excited about
There you go... you can thank me later when you've seen sense.:becool:

Maybe it would be for the good of my family if I just bought it. I spend far too much time looking at bikes every night while the missus watches crap reality tv like Big Brother. If I just bought a bike that fulfilled my ambitions then I would spend no time online looking at other bikes (I might spend time looking at wheels but that wouldnt be as bad).

I sacrificed all my spare income for a nice family holiday which I will enjoy but haven't spent anything on myself all year apart from Fizik R3 shoes and a few bits and pieces for the bike. Maybe I'm being selfish but it looked like a great bike for the money

I've got news for you: Buying this bike won't stop you wanting other bikes, if you're looking for relief from your mind you won't find it! Although if you're disciplined you can manage with two bikes. Don't listen to me, my n+1 count is 5, I haven't found a way to curb it yet.

It's a lovely bike in the flesh, I was going to buy one or the SLT (both compacts), I loved the matte black and white. Only reason I bought my Focus Cayo Evo 4 instead was because it just seemed better value and I really didn't like the short drops on the Easton bars they felt really weird. For £1,500 it's even more of a bargain but I'm sure there will be lots of good bargains coming in within the next month for 2013 bikes. I'm on the look out for a winter warrior but waiting for 2014 models to be properly launched for most brands as that's when they really start selling off older models.

I'm just as torn now as last night so no you aren't helping

Think I'll let it sit until after my holidays in a fortnight and rethink it in September. Maybe the notion will have gone away or there will be other good deals on 2013 models.
