What is the attraction of this bike over what you have e.g. geometry, comfort, better for racing etc. If you can justify it, why not? Unless it prevents you from feeding your children!

Surely you can sell your current bike as well, to recoup some cash. Lots of folks are happy to buy 60-70% of retail price on pinbike.com.

Good shop BTW, they sell Scott as well.

Maybe it would be for the good of my family if I just bought it. I spend far too much time looking at bikes every night while the missus watches crap reality tv like Big Brother

If you buy it (I would), I'll give you less than a month before you are back on the computer looking for n+2, and less than a day before you are looking to accessorise your new bike^_^

I don't know what exactly but in the whole shop it really stood out for me and was bang on my top budget with all the components you could wish for in that price. I saw the price on the tag as £1899 and immediately passed by but when the owner said he would let me have it for £1500 I started thinking of ways to hide it from the wife lol. It looks good, will be much racier than my current bike, the fit will be better as I think I was sized wrong for my current bike as it feels too big whereas the Cube felt great. The wheels are better and it's full carbon so has a great base for upgrading in the future whereas I wouldnt upgrade my alu frame as its not worth spending the money on.

It wont stop me feeding the wife or child but it's still alot of money for the average joe like me.

I know what you mean, it is a lot of money and its difficult to justify that sometimes in pure financial terms.

You need to consider it from a mental and physical well being as well. Will it make riding better, will you get out more (not necessarily a good thing with a young family), will you get some enjoyment from just having it?

Only you can decide for yourself. Sometimes it better to scratch the itch then live with the regret, but like everything in life it has to be balanced with all the other demands in your life. If you are spending too long agonizing over it, its probably the wrong choice.

Hope that helped more than the last post.

They are all out of stock... You snooze you lose

The link I provided was just to show the bike I have been offered for £1500 at a nearby Bike Shop. He still has it in stock but it's the last one and is my exact size. I've got a big sportive this Sunday so am going to get that over with and assess things afterwards. Im sure my current bike will be fine for the 85 mile sportive as it flew through a 60 mile event a few weeks ago.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
it is better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Although you may find that a divorce petition follows.

Honestly, people - what is it with you lot? The only adult response to the OP's dilemma is to walk away and say "I can't afford it".

Maybe it would be for the good of my family if I just bought it. I spend far too much time looking at bikes every night while the missus watches crap reality tv like Big Brother. If I just bought a bike that fulfilled my ambitions then I would spend no time online looking at other bikes (I might spend time looking at wheels but that wouldnt be as bad).

I sacrificed all my spare income for a nice family holiday which I will enjoy but haven't spent anything on myself all year apart from Fizik R3 shoes and a few bits and pieces for the bike. Maybe I'm being selfish but it looked like a great bike for the money

Its entirely possible she watches reality TV while thinking you're looking at crap bikes. I'd hate to have a bike called Agree, your Secteur is much nicer sounding. What's so good about this cube agree anyway, it even looks silly. If you really want it, sell your secteur first then buy it.

I have been thinking, have you asked the other half or dropped hints about this. The other option is to come back from the sportive with a crap time and says its all because of the bike. She if she bites and says yes!

Good luck for the sportive.

It's a lovely bike in the flesh, I was going to buy one or the SLT (both compacts), I loved the matte black and white. Only reason I bought my Focus Cayo Evo 4 instead was because it just seemed better value and I really didn't like the short drops on the Easton bars they felt really weird. For £1,500 it's even more of a bargain but I'm sure there will be lots of good bargains coming in within the next month for 2013 bikes. I'm on the look out for a winter warrior but waiting for 2014 models to be properly launched for most brands as that's when they really start selling off older models.

Sorry to thread hijack, but what do you think of your Focus Cayo?. They look lovely bikes and I might be tempted when this years deals arrive on the sites.
