Took the dog out early for a nice walk before going outside for a day's MTB trail riding with a friend. What could possibly go wrong?
At the furthest point of the loop about a mile from home the daft mutt was off the lead about 50 metres away. Before any dog haters moan it's open agricultural land with views for hundreds of metres in all directions, and he'd be back on the lead the moment a speck came into view on the horizon.
Anyway, I don't know what went through the daft dog mind, but he suddenly started running back towards me at full til, big stupid grin on his face. He's Field Labrador, bred for shooting duties, he's a fast runner. He's also a fairly big dog, as I found as he crashed into the front of my right knee, taking my legs out from under me, flipping me heels over head landing me on my back.
As I may there winded and groaning, slowly registering the pain in my leg the stupid mutt is running round and round in circles grinning like an idiot. He thinks it's a great game.
Get to my feet, right knee very painful. I manage to hobble home, and the missus is just getting showered then taking me to the out of hours doc. Knee over extension can be, nay, is bloody unpleasant and can result in cartilage and ligament damage that requires surgery. I'm hoping it's nothing too bad, and and RICE will bring it round.
Anyway, the point of this sorry tale is that I'm going to miss a day's fun on the bike we had planned, and probably no riding for a few days ahead as a minimum, and that's more upsetting than being injured in the first place
