the reluctant cyclist

I was cycling home tonight and I go through a council estate with some walkway/pathways - I'm not sure what it is becuase it's like a mini road with a pavement along side it?
Anyway, I'm cycling along the mini road comigng up to a corner I have done so many times - it's a bit of a blind bend but I didn't think it was that blind.
I must have been going too fast because I suddenly met another cyclist coming the other way - who was really bombing it and we both sort of looked at each other breaked and tried to swerve out of each other's way but there was no hope!
I went into the side of him head on - then I went over the handlebars and landed on my back - god it hurt! I've got a massive cog shaped scratch in my leg and the other knee is really bruised - it came up in a massive lump!
More importantly my bike is wrecked - the handlebars are totally bent - the front wheel is bucked - I haven't looked at it too well but it was unrideable and there is something making the wheels stick.
I can't beleive it - I've only had it a few weeks - back to the moutain bike for me!
We both agreed it was 50/50 and will definately learn from it - I feel sure that if he had stayed on course I would not have ridden into him but it was just so hard to brake and steer and everything - I expect I was doing about 9/10 mph maybe a little less - doesn't seem that fast does it until you have to stop dead!
There's a shed load of skin off my back on my t-shirt! Revolting - waiting for hubby to come home and give me first aid! I tried to go into my local gp on the way home to get them to look at the lump on my knee but they weren't interested and told me I had to go to A&E! I don't think I need that but was a bit unhelpful from a totally empty Doctor's surgery that was still open for another hour AND does emergency appointments!
Think I came off a lot better than my poor bike - will be taking all bends at 2 mph from now on!
