Old bicycle tyres

Can old bicycle tyres be reused for anything else? I just thought I'd ask before I threw some out.

Evans recycle them, well my local once does.

I think household waste recycle centre will cater for them also.

I made some rather effective braces out of an old innertube if that's any help and I know someone who uses old tyres cut up and riveted together to make wallets and bags and stuff.

No doubt she'll be along to tell you but I'm sure I remember reading that one of the things was making belts from them.

I use them to make reinforced gussets for my undercrackers.

Old tubes are useful, but not the tyres (Afaik). Even the recycling centre guy said "Nah, in the can't be recycled bin mate".

Arch and I, at Waste Not Want It, will convert old tyres to belts to sell. A portion of the profits go to St Nicholas Fields environment centre where Arch works as part of the cycle powered recycling team and I volunteer to fix and make things.

We are happy to accept tyres, inner tubes, used chain links, umbrellas, etc. to make new things from.
