I have exactly the same as this http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52074 but in better looking nick, apart from the bottom bracket wants replacing. I had new gear shifters put onto the top of the handlebars after the LBS told me it'd cost a hundred quid to replace the original ones. The frame is made from "Cro Mo" so i suppose it's a bit dated? I'm thinking about either getting the bracket fixed and riding it again(we've done many miles together)or getting it fixed and selling it on e bay,or just selling it for a few quid on e bay without fixing it. What do you reckon i should do? By the way,how much would it cost to have the bottom bracket replaced?

One of life's pleasures is collecting a brand new bike from the LBS and taking it outside, getting on and then riding it home !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I take your point but for me a new bike is better than an old one. However it's a good job we don't all have the same feelings otherwise it would be a boring old world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've taken it in to the LBS, He said it's not the bottom bracket but the (can't remember its name) in the back wheel that's gone. I can have the bit replaced but it might affect the chain movement so i'm having a new wheel put on. A new wheel and i'm going to fit some chrome toe clips to replace the old plastic ones, plus getting the old oil and grime off the chain, derailleur cassette,,then polishing the paintwork up should have it looking like new! Whether i sell it after i get it back i don't know? I might like it so much that i'll end up keeping it.

Sounds like a keeper to me. I'd get the bottom bracket replaced at the LBS, then give it a good clean-up and polish - bet when you jump back on for the first ride you'll think ebay is no longer an option! Fixed/SS conversion is also an option, if you've got the bug.

Edit - you just beat me to it! Glad you've done the right thing ;)
