...but is it ?
How can I tell if it's a genuine Colnago? The sticker says 531 and another sticker tells me it was re-furbished by Bob Jackson's of Leeds.(probably the chrome plating)
I'm pretty sure the forks are not the originals even though, possibly because, they have the 'club' sign stamped on the crown. The stamp is kind of feeble and indistinct and not exactly the work of a craftsman.
The rest of the frame ?...............well maybe. But how can I tell ? What do I look for once I have taken off all the bits ? It is light in weight, very light.
The stem and bars are one piece and I think steel, made by Cinnelli. Stronglight Chainset.

It's kitted out as a fixed wheel but it has a road dropouts and a gear hanger. 20161004_202614[1].jpg 20161004_202815[1].jpg 20161004_202750[1].jpg 20161004_202812[1].jpg 20161004_202854[1].jpg 20161004_202821[1].jpg 20161004_202906[1].jpg 20161004_202614[1].jpg 20161004_202815[1].jpg 20161004_202750[1].jpg 20161004_202812[1].jpg 20161004_202854[1].jpg 20161004_202821[1].jpg 20161004_202906[1].jpg 20161004_202614[1].jpg 20161004_202815[1].jpg 20161004_202750[1].jpg 20161004_202614[1].jpg 20161004_202815[1].jpg 20161004_202750[1].jpg 20161004_202812[1].jpg 20161004_202854[1].jpg 20161004_202821[1].jpg 20161004_202906[1].jpg

I don't think Colnago ever used 531. And the top tube looks to be round, not the trademark Master section. So...sorry.

On the plus side it's just a bike. I see an unconvincing Colnago 'Master' frameset on sale for £850 at Brick Lane Bikes but a person would have to have serious cash and a serious lack of sense to splash out that kind of dough on a 'vintage' frame because of the name.

If it's not a Colnago the Reynolds stickers may also have been erroneously applied. Difficult to know it's provenance if you've got no frame nos etc to go on.

I once had a Rory O'Brien frame which wasn't but that was easy to ID as it has Dawes stamped into the sear stays.

Interestingly I recently found a Colnago frame here for £18!

I'll have a look tomorrow and see what's on the frame but it looks at the moment to be all fur coat and no knickers. It's a pity but seeing as how I got the bike for nothing I'm not complaining.^_^
