And, why is it not the UK Olymipics?
Well, we've had the Beijing Olympics, the Athens Olympics, the Sydney, Atlanta, Moscow... etc

I don't think that any of them have ever been named after the country so why would these be special?

Nope, I don't agree with that one either as the venues are spread between various parts of London, Windsor and Weymouth and the footie is all over the country. ....... and they need to have a base for the Olympic village. I think they've done a good job dividing it up.
All very centralised, depending on where you are looking from.;)

And there will be NO cycling superhighways/designated cycle paths to or from the Olympic site from central London or connecting it with the rest of Greater London. And very little cycle parking. A bit of an over sight.

With everything being centralised in London, for those living much further away by the time you add on inflated travel, food and accommodation costs, the 'cheap' ticket prices will be far less attractive, especially for families.

I believe that the WHOLE country would have benefitted if the events had been more geographically spread around.

I agree. Thought we'd take our new folders for a couple of days in London, next month for my good lady's birthday, train from Leeds. We are off to Amsterdam instead for about 35% of the cost of a trip to London. Every time we think of going to London we end up in Paris, Barcelona, Mardrid etc for considerably less cash, it's crazy!

Aye.

I was going to go to the 'once in a lifetime' games with Mrs CP + Miss CP.

Accomodation - no chance - too expensive.

Transport - crowded, traffic jams, and no cycling infrastruture to ride in from park n ride.

'Takin the piss' ticket prices......

No ta, I'll go abroad (cheaper) instead.

It's not like this is particular to London, or to the Olympics.

I have friends who go to many sporting events abroad. In the UK, the weather is as likely to be taking a piss as the organisers are taking the piss, so it's easier and cheaper and possibly even faster to jump on EasyJet than it is to hit the M1.

Environmental considerations aside, of course.

If they have any sense they will simply price the tickets according to demand, so the final of a good sport may attract lots of demand and big prices.
Other sports with a limited fan base or appeal (synchronised swimming perhaps) may play to an empty stadium.

But then there is Beach Vollyball.

I really don't know what people are moaning about, the prices are exactly what you'd expect. The games are costing a huge amount, and the spread of tickets is pretty fair. I'm going to make sure I get to at least 2 days, hopefully a day at the Athletics and a day at the swimming. Not to bothered about the track cycling, as the worlds are cheaper, as mentioned before.

My youngest is part of the "children's promise". I'm not quite sure how all that will work out yet. We've been budgeting for some time now knowing this was coming. Also remember that its not just the Olympics - the paralympics are on also. The Velodrome was officially handed over today.. some stunning pictures on the BBC website. I'm going to apply for some tickets for various events and hopefully get to see some of the action live. Looking at prospective accommodation v flights its as cheap to fly in from Dublin with Ryanair and make way from Stanstead. IF someone has the foresight to set up a large campsite then I think that option would appeal.

I was thinking about trying to get tickets for some track events/finals but not at £50 a go.

I guess I'll have to settle for the road and time trials at part of the free sections.

I'll probably try and get in for something, as it's not going to be in the UK for the rest of my life.
I think I'll also go and see some of the cycling, as I'm very close to Dorking and Boxhill.

The prices look OK to me, not cheap but not outrageous - but a discount for UK citizens would be nice.
