Once in a lifetime ...

It's a bit of an over-used expression, especially with regard to holidays (once you've had your once-in-a-lifetime holiday does that mean that's it!, no more great holidays?

What I mean is experiences.

I did a static-line parachute jump at Headcorn Airport in May 1981 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Would I do another jump? Not a chance (unless the plane I was on was crashing and there happened to be parachutes available) as the first time you jump you don't know what to expect. Every time after, you know exactly what to expect.

Any other 'once tried' experiences that won't be repeated, and what are your reasons?

For me it has to be scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. This was fascinating but certainly a once in a lifetime experience as I don't really like water, especially the sea! But it was something I thought I should do whilst in Australia and I'm pleased I did.

I'm very similar though I do like water. I did my Padi course in cold old England before I went out to The Maldives in 1997. I enjoyed the diving but not enough to do it again. Strangely I got more enjoyment out of snorkling.
