Phil Llewellyn wrote a 2-parter (or 3?) about driving 2 Sherpas - one with a large trailer, from the UK, overland to support an expedition to climb K2

My mates dad got one of the first Sherpa's as a company van, iirc it was at the local B.L dealership more than on the road, as the diesel engine would drop one of the valves into the cylinder, would have been about 1974/75 ish was a pile of utter junk, was replaced by another Ford Transit, I think the firm binned off the idea of replacing the Transits with these new fangled Leyland Sherpa's

That's a good read for sure.
Some of the others who went with us actually drove the 2 sherpa's complete with rally car's and spares on trailers from the Leyland factory gates down through europe before catching the ferry across to Cyprus and around Cyprus before crossing over to Lebenanon and then the return trip , where as i flew in and out of Cyprus as i couldn't get 6 weeks off work .
And from memory they never missed a beat despite being rather abused through out the journey in the late 80's early 90's happy days and good memories for sure

Volumex denotes the presence if a supercharger. IIRC only a modest power boost, around 137ish BHP, but a nice meaty torque curve.

They did have a tendency to rot somewhat... Dad moved his on when it became apparent just how much work his actually needed. I really regret he did that.
That said, while they were quick for what they were, the handling wasn't great thanks to the narrow track and a front-biased weight distribution. That's where my Mini would run rings around it.

Dad had one of those, too, albeit a bit before my time. He traded it in for a Super Minx estate. He was something of a Rootes man.
