Rover V8 135ish on the earliest P6s up to 190ish on the SD1 Vitesse. The likes of TVR and Marcos got a lot more out of them but there often wasn't much left of the original motor by the time they'd finished.

My P6 was adept and turning petrol into quite a nice noise, but with not a huge amount in the way of thrust as a by product. Still, when you think a 1.2 family car with 50BHP was typical in the 60s then 135 must have felt like Thor himself throwing a tantrum.

Going backlog around 1980, wwe had a nearby neighbour who had...I'm sure I'm remembering it right, a Jaguar that he converted to look like the XJC. The entire roof at that time was rubbed down, showed signs of filler and was waiting for paint. With hindsight, it may have been an XJC that was having superficial work done on the roof,.I perhaps had.never seen an XJC at that time so maybe jumped to the wrong conclusion

To be fair I've never driven a V6 ford, whether Essex or Cologne flavours but I'd guess a large(ish) capacity old fashioned engine would have more low down torque than a revy small turbo

Had a few over the years a 3 litre Essex in a TVR was fantastic, then a 2.8 and a 2.9 in Sierra 4x4's which went ok all things considered.

Driven a couple of turbo technics breathed on 2.8 and 2.9's with 250+hp the 2.8's were a single T3 turbo which needed a bit of spinning up but the 2.9's were twin t25's so a bit smaller and they spun up a little quicker.

The best being the minker which we all had drives in for one reason or another https://www.fordpower.org.uk/nik/mink.html

Couple in London a week or so back. The cute little Fiat was the (for the time) hooligan Abarth version

Was it, by any chance, driven by a short, chubby guy with a moustache and a snub-nosed .38?
Or a pimp, giving information, to 2 Detectives in a red (with a white 'hockey stick' stripe) Ford Torino
