I'd agreed to buy one of those from a chap in Falmouth many years ago. Mrs BF, who'd come along with me to discuss, view etc later said I was being silly, so I backed out. We still don't talk about it.

She was wise. I've driven one on a track, and my god it was frightening. No assistance at all, and we weren't allowed to use first as it would just lose traction. Now, the GTR R34 was a hoot with all the computer gizmo's keeping me on the track - you could feel it adjusting everything.

But what was astonishing 20 or 30 years ago in terms of performance or handling is upper spec family car stuff these days. The pace of progress has been nothing short of astonishing.

I passed a striking looking car on the way home, a silver Morgan Aero 8 (2009 model). Not something I'd been aware of so I had to look it up. Here’s a photo of a different one as I was unable to stop to get a picture.

It's got a 4.8L BMW V8 engine!
