A 2-door!!
There can’t be that many around, in comparison to the 4-door saloon?

I'm not sure about rarity. Production figures are sketchy but Morris/BMC seem to have built approximately twice as many two door as four door saloons, and a lot fewer Travellers.

I remember the Renault 5 equivalent and indeed the metro 6r4 but not realised there was a Cleo too

Aye. The numbers were impressive for the time in a Top Trumps kind of way, but in reality they were less than a second quicker than a 182 which had a boot and rear seats, and which cost half as much.

The first version had very suspect handling and was considered a bit of a widowmaker. It was hastily revised, the handling tamed and it was a better car, but still slower than a lot of less expensive tin.

Rarity and rose tinted specs makes people pay strong money for them today. Never really did it for me.

There's one of them in a house garage just down the road, it sounds good

My mate had the lesser Renault 5 Gordini Turbo way back in the late 80's. I had a brand new Nova SR at the time and the 5 was faster, but not by a huge margin. One thing I always remember about the Gordini is that I felt like I was in a sardine tin and always felt really unsafe. Getting back into the Nova, to me at the time felt like getting into a Volvo in comparison to a 5. It was a long time ago and could imagine a Nova would feel really unsafe and flimsy these days. The Nova was a lot better built car than a Renault 5, to me anyway.
