My mate had the lesser Renault 5 Gordini Turbo way back in the late 80's. I had a brand new Nova SR at the time and the 5 was faster, but not by a huge margin. One thing I always remember about the Gordini is that I felt like I was in a sardine tin and always felt really unsafe. Getting back into the Nova, to me at the time felt like getting into a Volvo in comparison to a 5. It was a long time ago and could imagine a Nova would feel really unsafe and flimsy these days. The Nova was a lot better built car than a Renault 5, to me anyway.

I remember those Nova SR's were a bit variable. Get in one and it'd fly, but the next one off the line would be 6 or 7 BHP down in comparison and feel a bit meh, just a quirk of the slightly warmed-up 13S engine. A sharp one was a very good little car indeed.

Hardingstone fete. There was a bigger car show kver the road at Wootton, but being a Hardingstone Parish Councillor id have been beaten up if I'd wandered across.

The 1600E was indeed lovely. The Ro80 was all original paint.

Its been rebuilt, but that notwithstanding the engine is "original".

My brother had an astra sri it flew but lethal at a tonne!

Obviously a replica, but quite well done, and looks like it would be a lot of fun

Id suggest its poorly executed - the couldnt afford a Jag rear axle so,used something else. As a result the axle is too wide and the wheels aren't correctly dished to be able to accommodate it.

The wheels themselves look cheap, and while,one can't be sure from the pic it does look as if theyve left it with a gel coat colour instead of painting it proper like.

To do it right costs what it costs, and every shortcut makes it look nastier. IMHO, natch.

I think the patina is the gel coat oxidising, thets what made me think it perhaps wasnt painted. Theyve done half a job all round.

Seen in Bedford today. Was a Ford Prefect once. Not sure what’s under the bonnet now but it wasn’t a Ford side valve. Sounded v8 ish. Very throaty
