I was just looking at my car insurance certificates which I have recently renewed. I have never noticed before but the old certificate expired at 23:59 and the new one commenced at 00:00. So, for a whole minute I wasn't insured. What would happen if ANPR picked me up during that minute? Would I lose my car, or if I had an accident that could be proven to have occurred during that minute, where would it leave me other than up the creek without a paddle.
I always thought that 00:00 didn't exist officially as a recognised time, especially within the police. It was either a minute before or a minute after midnight.
How many crimes are reported as happenning at 00:00 hours I wonder.

I work in a hospital where we use the 24 h clock. 2400 and 0000 are interchangeable here. I personally chart 2400 because a tiny part of me still thinks there's no "0" time ...

I don't accept the 59th minute thing. If the insurance certificate states an expiry time then that is the time. If they meant the entire 59th minute they would have specified 00:00 to avoid any ambiguity. If they can find a miniscule amount of reason to strike down a claim they will grasp it with both hands and all the small print they can muster and if the police can find a reason to dish out a penalty towards their targets (which we all know they don't have!!) they will likewise grab it.

So if you automatically re-new your car insurance, the insurance company don't cover you for this minute, but still take your cash. So we are all being ripped off. Now tell me, who are the thieving scum?

Yep, midnight is 0001 when I complete a crime report!

As for the OPs point, perhaps you should have called tempcover and got them to cover you for that missing minute to be safe.

I had changed companies so the two certificates relate to two policies not a continuation of an existing one.

Thanks for the comments and the bit of fun at my expense
Obviously the prospect of this thing causing problems is in reality very remote but theoretically not impossible, hence my OP.
