Well, I encountered fainites in Leeds playgrounds and pax in a very definitely non-public school in Greenwich back in 1960/61 so the words had already travelled by the late 50s. Hard to remember it now but Greenwich was still a pretty run down area.Having read the wonderful work of Iona and Peter Opie I thought Fainites was a southern word, with Yorkshire being a Kings or Barley area.
