none at all, we had her Mum and Gran round yesterday, late 60's and 98 repsectively and no history. Due to severity of break I'm pretty sure hospital will be running tests to be sure, though I will ask.

Thanks for all the good wishes folks, I spoke to Jane about half an hour ago and passed them on, she says thank you. Fingers crossed for the morning

Interesting that the most serious cycling injuries often seem to happen at slow speeds - and that one sounds VERY painful

I've also only just seen this, real bad luck for her in particular and the rest of the family really. Hope the recover is quick and complete!!

Did the same to my left leg, in a very stupid way, piggy back accident at Uni in 2000. 3 weeks in hospital due to the swelling not going down. Wish that my friends called an ambulance instead of carrying me over to someones car. Oh and the nurse in A&E could have help by getting a wheel chair for me instead of telling me to hop. (I fell on it again).

Still went on an archaeological dig 6 weeks later.

I still have the pins and the metal rod in there and they seem fine.

Hope she gets better soon, hospitals are not that bad.

Very sorry to hear about this. When MsM broke her tib and fib in a cycling fall it all happened so quickly that we weren't quite sure how it turned out so disastrously... but she did make a full recovery and has since done LEJoG and lots of other long-distance rides.

While immobilised in plaster she suffered a pulmonary embolism that was far more life-threatening than the fractures. She was subsequently prescribed a blood-thinning drug, but should perhaps have been given it before the emergency. This might be something worth enquiring about.

Since getting mobile again, MsM has needed orthotics, something which is probably related to the biomechanical legacy of the break (her foot not being joined back on at quite the original angle).

Recovery will probably be a prolonged process. Lots of love, encouragement and understanding will be called for!

I was feeling sorry for myself this a.m. as I have a throat infection and am off work. Had to cancel a pootle to Southend yesterday (cause: kissing sixty cyclists on an overnight ride according to Mrs. KH ) but I wouldn't swap places with Jane. Or you for that matter; a hard few weeks ahead.
