Just over a week since my bike arrived and i've leaned a few things.

Cycling is even more fun than I thought ok it's not always going to like that but every thing can get like that.

You will get lost but it's ok turn round and go back or go a totally different way.

Be aware of traffic check and double check don't get too freaked out when something is behind you they soon pass you.

With a bit of thinking it's simple to build in time to get off on your bike even if you don't feel like a ride just do it. What ever crap may have happen in your day once on a bike it's a different world.

If your not on your bike you are thinking about it or reading about it or on the net looking stuff up. Having rest day's is ok and makes the next ride even better.

My cheep shorts left over from a bike loan did not cut it but a bit of shopping on wiggle (free Haribo's get in) soon fixed that one.

You become a bit of an eBay freak and you don't have to get everything at once make and list try to stick to it  buy what you really need 1st.

Sometimes thing's happen but don't let it spoil your ride. learn from it for next time. If you have to stop and get off your bike it's ok. Don't panic if your in the wrong gear it's soon fixed even when you get it wrong up a hill and grind to a holt. Don't beat yourself up you get better with time.

Hill's however hard do end and coming down them is not as scary as you think just don't go mad if you need to slow down than do it and you soon get to the end.

No such thing as only just calling into the bike shop for a look you always come out with something nothing too much it's not like the Mrs tried a bike out and ordered one ...oh :okay: it is.

Oh and if a few week's ago I was told I'd do just over 67 miles in a week. I'd have been happy to take that.

I can add a few other things but think i've bored you enough.

You can have too much of a good thing. At some point you will have rides where you want to throw the bike into the nearest ditch.

Around 2,750 weeks here and strangely I'm back on a Tricycle (although this one is a bit bigger and has gears plus a back brake :cycle:)
700 weeks since re-start, and since the local auto plant closed before re-opening, there have been a plethora of factory tricycles about, and modified bikes as well from the plant. I'm getting one for work, as it will suit better than the rusty old bike I'm using there now. Quite nice trike, though heavily modified with a welder to attach a tool box to the rear and the usual paint jobs that happen to a work trike. Still in all, good enough, for the girls we go out with.

Never turn around, always go forward, you are never lost, you just might not know exactly where you are at this point in time, okay forget that I had to turn around the other day when the road stopped at a fence & the motorway was at the other side of it.

I forgot to mention mine now also has a 250W front wheel motor fitted.

I have never been in but ride canals a fair bit, I do always wonder as I go under the low curved bridges I could end up in one one day

I know exactly what you mean.

On the Sheffield stretch of the Rotherham/Sheffield canal the path is very narrow under them curved bridges-maybe only 2ft wide or less and you have to watch your head if in to the wall side.

My incident ocurred years ago on an old cheap steel MTB. Was out with two other riders on the return leg. The path was not narrow at this part.

I was in front. One of the guys was pushing to go faster for some reason. I started pedaling faster, but I was feeling immensely relaxed due to the endorphins. I just found myself heading into the canal. It all seemed to happen in 2 or 3 seconds.

The bike was floating, I was swimming and the cheap Chinese pound shop lights still worked!

The only canal towpath I've ridden is the Leeds-Liverpool (at the Liverpool end), and all the bridges have railings so you can't fall in under them.

The closest I've been to a bath was a few weeks ago when I was riding along an unsurfaced stretch with narrow but quite deep ruts, and my front wheel got stuck in one and I was thrown off (thankfully very slowly). Fortunately I was dumped in the nettles on the dry side rather than in the water.

I've stopped being clipped in now because of those bridges, it's either the last but one or last but two before you get to Victoria Keys, always feared I'd be unable to unclip quick enough & end up in the canal.
