That's just paying for something using chip and pin...

Might be worth talking to your bank beforehand to let them know as it's a large amount, but that's seriously erring on the side of caution.

As for the car, Abarth's are lovely. Personally I don't see the point in buying one for pootling around the place, but it's your money so...

Regarding the car itself, I have to have it as the founder of the Abarth Fiat range, Carlos Albert Abarth has, or had the same birthday as me, which is the 15th of November, hence the scorpion/scorpio birth sign badge on the car, albeit his was much earlier than mine in 1960. I am as I post 6 days from my 65th birthday which was for men, once regarded as their 'retirement day', but not now as that age moves up year after year it seems. I intend to buy the car as a 'selfie' retirement age birthday present as the founder's age and mine are the same, meaning its an omen to buy the car. As for 'pootling around the place' yes that will most likely be the case, but you have to admit, it has a look about it, colour wise scheme that makes it look quite classy, which tones down the 'boy racer' image of Abarths.😉

Plus, I just love that exhaust sound, Abarths are well known for!😎👍

You are aware that other than using the fellows name the car has nothing to do with Mr Abarth or the tuning company he founded?

They're specialist engines, very highly strung. The need specialist care and dont take well to short urban journeys and the like. Anything over 60mor 70k miles is liable to be on its knees and needing a rebuild.

They did do a version with much of the looks but the safer-bet 1.2 or three pot motors.

Just to add a note on the hit and miss of modern banking when I purchased my wife's new car three years back now my first problem with NatWest was the daily transfer amount cap of 20k. My second problem was that even though the transfer was to a major UK car dealership group NatWest wouldn't authorise it. Three phone calls later I was told NatWest wouldn't transfer the money until I was physically in the dealership and had sight of the car.

So at the dealership I had to phone them again and plead with them to release MY money to purchase the car. Two embarrassing hours later where I am sitting in the dealership the money was transferred.

When I bought myself a new car six months ago I reverted to sending them a cheque a week before to give them chance to clear it, so much easier.

I have just bought another new car and I had to transfer a 1k deposit. As I was on holiday I had to do the transfer on my mobile only to be hit with another new NatWest rule, £750 daily limit on mobile transfers!!

When I do the balance after trade ins etc I will be doing it by cheque again.

It really is becoming harder and harder to spend your own hard earned.

With regards to the Halifax app because there interest rates are usually well below the norm we only keep a small balance in there but have never had a problem accessing it using the memorable information drop down digits.

I have never forgot the memorable information because it is a memorable experience.

Hope he's got deep pockets.

He moaned about the cost of taxing an MX5, but that's going to pale into insignificance compared to the cost of keeping an Abarth running properly.

But hey, if that's what he wants and he has the cash to spare then why not?

I've decided to throw caution to the wind, regarding payment for the car. I'm going to drive down to have a look at it with a friend who will probably drive my car for me, as my car is insured for certain drivers. If the car's ok I will pay using my Halifax card, typing in the 4 digits code. That should be met with an email alert from the Halifax bank, asking if the seller is genuine, using different words of course. What could possibly go wrong?!🤔
Well the bank, the Halifax, could put a stop on your card. Which would require you to visit your local branch, with the three required forms of ID, to unblock it. As it's possibly a large transaction away from your local area.

Whilst they may question who is using the card, they can't tell you if the person/company doing the selling is genuine. That's not what they're there for. bikingdad90 gave the best advice/summary of this, on the first page, seventh post. To which you've since added your actual date of birth.

You really are blind to what information you are putting out there!!! Thank you for giving me your date of birth.

I now know where you are from, your date of birth, your bank, your most likely memorable word. I have enough information to be able to impersonate you!!

TBH, I had no problem paying over £30k for my van on my debit card - no app checks, just the pin. Paying £80 deposit on the insurance needed me to verify that transaction using my banking app. Bonkers.

All seems mighty strange to me.

Car Gurus seems to be just an advertising platform registered at companies house under business category 96090 that includes:
Palmist, Knifegrinder, Town crier, Spiritualists activities, Poodle clipping, Clairvoyant, Dogs home, Escort agency etc etc

LMR Trade Car Centre has a place in Newton Le Willows, but isn't registered at companies house. Instead it's registered with the FCA as some sort of financial firm which: "can only introduce customers to another firm or members of the firm’s group, and/or give out certain kinds of marketing material".

Having recently been stung for a lot less that £7k by a serial registerer and dissolver of companies, the words barge-pole and touch spring immediately to mind.

So I should be able to buy the car using my card and PIN numbers? I know I've asked before, but why shouldn't I be able to? And once again, if I try to pay that way I will receive a text or email asking if it could be possible fraud etc. On telling the bank no, their system should then process the money transaction yes?🤔

You're assuming that it'll be a person that intervenes if you go to use the Chip and Pin method. Picked up by the system, and you're more likely to have the transaction blocked, possibly your card. Then it will be human intervention, sending the e-mail/text to you.

Going to purchase anything with your card, in the belief that the banks system will prevent any loss by you is just plain stupid. You have to act responsibly when using the card, not have the expectation that the bank will just pick up after you.
That's how it's coming across in your posts. You've had various people telling you the same things, contact the bank and get them to talk you through the setup. It seems as that's been forgot about and you're now looking at doing it in a way the seller hasn't agreed to(You said in the very first post they will use online payment only), and expect others to jump in and protect you, from yourself.

The best advice has been given, why not use it?

Accy when I bought my last bike it was heading towards 6 grand and I just paid with my debit card.
However I know the owner of the shop well and I also know where he lives and drinks so if it had gone tits up. I knew where to send the boys😉
