No fancy Chopper, but had Cow horns and knobbly tyres.

I was about 12 when the Chopper was in fashion, but despite my pleas, I never got one. I think they were relatively expensive at the time, about £45 IIRC?
If I HAD managed to convince my parents that my life depended on owning a Chopper, the purple one in the OP would have been my choice.

Edit.... Doh; yes £45 would fit in with the 92p per week for 50 weeks thing.
According to online inflation calculator, £45 in 1974 is the equivalent of £442 now. So no wonder my pleas fell on deaf ears, with another 3 sons for my parents to buy Christmas and birthday presents for!

Had a blue one with white graphics, it was value for money though as it lasted from Xmas ‘71 and was still being used by my brother in the eighties iirc the tyres were balder than Kojacks head by then!

Wow. A bike that's both a Chopper and a Racer. I don't remember those. You must have been cooler than the Cresta bear,
But not as frothy, man! 😎

I was too old for one, already grown up when they came out.

I hoped for the ultra violet Chopper (purple) but never got one.
Made do with some begged rides on a friends orange bike.
Went to make amends when they brought out the latest version a few years ago.
Visited the Raleigh shop with a view to buy but got a shock as to how small they were.
Never to be 😟
