She, and I thought of using average but wanted to see if you could resist the temptation of picking me up on it...... you sir, are a pedant!

Last night was quite nice, even this morning hasn't been too bad, but the wind is starting to pick up a little now. I start at 2pm and head West, so am definitely giving it a miss. You are clearly far braver than me. Or perhaps just mad?

No, not really mad: at 6.30am it was not really windy, bulk of the bad weather happened while I was at work.
Did not even get rained on, not on the way into work, not riding back home.

04:00 to 07:30 this morning a ridge of high pressure moving South Eastwards, from Iceland, across the country. So there should be a drop in the temperature.

Ho hum, the west of Scotland is in for another VERY wet and windy weekend. My west facing windows are getting a good hosing right now. Ach well, another cycle free weekend.....

Tuesday it starts to get better and Wednesday looks like being a good day.... maybe it's a sign that next weekend will be perfect.

You're quite right, it's been wetter and windier here today than it was on the day of the "storm" last week. And set to get even wetter and windier tonight and tomorrow. I hate winter .

Or maybe I'm just lucky, the worst of the weather seems to always happen when I'm in work!

I made the mistake of going over to my parents' home today. They are away, otherwise there would have been an SOS on Wednesday... instead it was left for me to find that the biggest of the trees (and my mother's favourite) in their garden which had 3 "trunks" at about 6 inches off the ground, had split into 3. One third was resting against their neighbours garage, another against a flimsy patio wall that is roughly 8 foot high, but one of those 'see through' walls (which is probably the only reason it is still standing, and the 3rd split, the biggest was resting against my parents flat roofed (and only repaired 10 days ago) kitchen. Thankfully it as been very quiet since Tuesday, so no damage done (at least obvious that I can see) and the kitchen roof has not leaked... Unless you see it from certain angle, it is not obvious what had happened, but the neighbour whose garage it was resting against had done nothing despite knowing that they were away! It took me 2 hours to cut the thing down and clear up! Wish I had known earlier in the week...

All of the potted plants had also been blown over and their garden is sheltered... We got off lightly here - only a few fallen trees and a couple of hours without electricity!

Ironically my parents went to Tenerife! It has been a touch wet there!

currently the pile of wood is higher than their summer house. It was all I could do with it - get it into the back garden and out of sight so it doesn't look like the house is empty...
hoping I didn't over do it and have recovered enough for tomorrow's bike ride. Will know soon after breakfast, like I always do! But I fear the worst to be honest, however I could not leave it as it was.

Yep - have cut plenty of them down by myself over the years - part of living rurally and having a 1 mile dirt track that we lived up for 12 years (used to as in last house, not this one). It was lined with trees and if gales brought one down, the only way you got out was to clear it yourself... my OH worked 2 week on, 2 weeks off away from home for many years (up on Benbencula) and I just had to get on with. I was however, cursing my step-father for not having the one useful bit of equipment I needed (given he has absolutely everything else!) - a chainsaw. I had to do the whole thing by hand!
