I've just cycled from Newport to Cardiff across the coast road. It was a nightmare the wind was against me all the way.

Up here in Edinburgh it was 25mph sustained + gusts to 45 + rain:sad:

Really bad gusty sidewinds

My route uses some country backroads. Every time there was an opening in the hedge the bike went sideways.

Fortunately for me it was mainly from behind all the way home, though it was a bit hairy when it was coming from the side and got pretty gusty.

Managed to avoid the rain though - never quite seemed to get through on my route.

We had the wind on Monday - ended up on the road bike today after the MTB Commuter had a faulty front wheel valve - no time to change - grabbed the road bike. Forecast was wet, but managed to blast home before the heavy stuff came down... (no guards and best shoes on)..... Windy again and wet - commuter back in action.

I got a good soaking. Don't know why I didn't put my rainlegs on, My firefly's were soaked through - I hate it when they stick to your legs. The wind didn't get too bad until about a mile or so from home. It has well picked up now,I can hear it hitting the side of the house. I'm glad I cut the grass on Sunday and haven't put my tomatoe's outside!

No rain here but I did manage 20m @ 19mph on my way in with mostly side/tail winds xx(

The 35m @ 16.9mph home weren't quite as pleasant :wacko:

I did my first ever '10 miles in 30 minutes' (20.26mph average) Monday morning with an 7mph tail wind - on the way home was a 22mph headwind with gusts upto 38mph. Needless to say my average speed dropped to 13.5mph:sad:

Must admit the Forth Road Bridge was 'interesting' as the bike felt like it was picked up and put back down again about a metre to the right whenever the wind caught you:eek:

This a.m. was bloody windy as well. Really really frustrating progress.

Positively dangerous here in the wide open spaces of Lincolnshire. Thought at one time I would have to walk to the pub, but in the end I battled manfully on and got there (and back) in one piece.:biggrin:

Hey, I'm from Scunthorpe and felt it pretty bad here in the open towards the village I live in, I know it's not Lincolnshire but I bet you're the closest person to me! :biggrin:

Brilliant! There's two of you!

@Gerry Attrick -
I'm only really commuting two and from work at the moment, I'd love to get a road bike but my wages are all gobbled up before I know it, although I do have a rubbish Raleigh Airlite frame that I would love to fix up!

@sticky sherbert -
Nice, I've got a mate who lives in Goxhill and an old college tutor too!
