That's it - Friday...I am officially fed up with this wind.....

It's been a howling headwind each day this week, and wet bar today.... and to top it off I had a 'visit' from the fairy within half a mile from home this morning...grrr... Roll on home time...... if it's like this tomorrow, I am not getting my road bikes out for a spin...sick of it...... I'll watch the track racing....

Consoling myself with a hot cuppa and a sausage buttie with brown sauce...

it wasn't the best today was it

although on the god side I fixed the slow puncture last night that meant pumping up the rear tyre every two days

Had to battle straight into the teeth of that wind all the way to work today... almost ended up going backwards at times!

My only saving grace is that wind has been at least staying in roughly one direction so I have an ultra speedy ride to work and a red faced pouring with sweat ride home.

It's quite demoralising when you see an OAP on an upright sail past in the opposite direction apparently going twice as fast as you. However I'm not sure if this was a trick of the eye {I was a steady 18mph} or the wind was REALLY that strong.

There are times when I've climed Woodhead (Peak District) faster than someone has been riding down - I shouted over 'it's faster this way'.....that said coming back over the Snake at 5 mph out of the saddle isn't funny...and not doing more than 20 on the way down....

I woke up this morning, heard the wind battering the house pressed snooze on the alarm and decided to take the car. Then my conscience got the better of me and thoughts of "It's never as bad as it sounds" started going round in my head and I ended up taking the bike. Not as bad as I imagined really but then again it never is! Still, it's demoralising when you go round a corner, straight into the wind and your legs go from doing 100rpm for 3rpm!

I've been off the last three days listening to the wind dreading my cycle to work tommorow. I'll try an adopt that ethos that it can't be as bad as sounds.....until I hit the walkway at the Clyde and it always seems to be worse than it sounds!

Much as dislike the striaght headwind  that's not the worst. the worst is the unexpected sidewind gusting between buildings strong enough to physically shift me several inches across the road. It's unnerving anyway plus dangerous with manchesters usual close overtakers zooming about. Normally it just produces a bit of a wobble that I have under control but the strength of the wind these last few days has been such I just yaw quite a way off my intended line.

take it carefully!

+ 1. There's a couple of bits like that on my route so I can usually anticipate them and try and make sure I've got plenty of space.

The wind was perfectly behind me for the main "fast" bit of my journey to work this morning: doing 30mph with virtually no effort was fun. I'm hoping it swings round - or at least drops a bit - before I try to go home tonight.
