well........here we have a minister trying to get a bit of free publicity, and appearing before an audience that is probably more across the changes in benefits and the reduction in local authority services than most of us. Cue informed response.

I do think this was a telling moment, though, and I think there was a realisation in his pained expression. This wasn't internecine Tory backstabbing. This was far more serious - people do not often boo public figures in this country, and very rarely on occasions when the booee is not expecting it (the WI incident being the only one that comes to mind). Worse still, the people that booed Osborne were the very ones that he was attempting to hitch a lift off.

Long term Osborne is toast. It's just a question of when he gets the push rather than if.

It's a shame the didn't boo so hard when Blair took us to war on a lie.
Well said sir!
Didn't you see the million plus people on the first anti iraq war through London, I think there were a few boo's there.
Thank you The Jogger.

Still don't think it warranted spoiling the moment for three paralympians who have worked extremely hard for their success yesterday in a competition which is supposed to be above politics. If they don't like Osborne then find another time to express your disapproval but don't spoil someone else's achievement for petty political reasons.

As someone who has twice had to deal with the incompetence* of AToS if I had been there I would not have been shouting merely 'Boo!' When you consider the audience is going to be largely made up of people who express a preferential option for the disabled he's lucky he got away without being confronted by an angry mob.

*a euphemism for deliberately falsify evidence of disability with the intention of denying someone their benefits in furtherance of government policy.

AToS are sponsoring the Games. Prominently. That sponsorship is a political act.

You couldn't really describe that as a sporting event. As I understood it were talking about politicians being boo'd at sporting events? A big lack of booing for Blair when he was gurning at the cameras pretending to be interested in the Olympics.

And no need to get childish or personal.

Pity they couldn't have reserved it for a more appropriate moment rather than spoil three paralympians moment of glory.

They booed Osborne, and cheered for the paralympians, who seemed extremely happy. Also it was a worldwide audience that can now see what the UK public really think of the government cut backs.

That London
they booed osborne not the athletes, when the athletes names were announced there was a huge cheer for each name. even the IPC guy got a huge cheer.

Exactly this. I think there is a clear distinction between 80,000 people booing Gideon and 80,000 people cheering the medalists.

To be fair to George Osborne he did warn before the 2010 general election that whoever won that election would become the most unpopular government ever, due to having to sort out the financial mess that the previous government had left behind. He is proving himself right, but people do have short memories don't they!
