bet theres a fair few who wish they hadn't had to go . Armwed forces do a stunning job and get told where to go and what to do. you didn't have a choice did you.
Yeah, I had a choice. The Chief Constable usually refuses to release offices as a matter of course, but I was mud divorce and quite up for it so I asked him to release me, and he very kindly did. My retainers up now so I won't get another go.

Still don't think it warranted spoiling the moment for three paralympians who have worked extremely hard for their success yesterday in a competition which is supposed to be above politics. If they don't like Osborne then find another time to express your disapproval but don't spoil someone else's achievement for petty political reasons.
It didn't spoil anything. It was apparent that it was just meant for Osborne. People were respectful when he handed over the medals.
Why should he get to bask in the reflected glory of these athletes when he isn't worthy to tie their laces. If there was any insult to the athletes it was getting that toad to give the medals out in the first place. Considering the governments actions over Remploy and Atos he was a very poor choice indeed. The sad thing is that he won't take a blind bit of notice.

And the Olympics/Paralympics are supposed to rise above politics - even the North Koreans are there - and athletes who have tried to use them as a platform for political messages get sanctioned. Its done now but I just think its a shame the crowd had to politicise it in that way. There have been plenty of other politicians from here and abroad involved and if everyone started expressing their party political feelings towards them the whole thing would degenerate pretty quickly. YMMV.
This is just not in any way true except when the government want it to be. The Olympics are intrinsically political whether you like it or not. Why don't people compete for themselves rather than for their country if it isn't political. There is no way to extract politics from a huge international event like this but it is only deemed to be acceptable when the politics involved is that of cooperation with the powers that be. If it is not meant to be political then George Osborne has no place there whatsoever. Look at all the wrangling that goes on just to host the Olympics and try and say that politics has nothing to do with it. It is disingenuous of governments to say it's not political when they are willing to score as many points off the back of the efforts and passions of others as they possibly can.
The Olympics is political.

Enlighten me.

This..

As someone who has twice had to deal with the incompetence* of AToS if I had been there I would not have been shouting merely 'Boo!' When you consider the audience is going to be largely made up of people who express a preferential option for the disabled he's lucky he got away without being confronted by an angry mob.

*a euphemism for deliberately falsify evidence of disability with the intention of denying someone their benefits in furtherance of government policy.

Osborne just being there must have spoiled the moment.

Actually it was probably a C4 broadcasting mistake more than anything else.. I was at the Katie Taylor fight and Cameron was there and was interviewed.. boos hisses etc.. and all sorts of chanting... he had to stop because he wasn't being heard.. on the BBC afterwards saw the interview and it was all cleaned up.. couldn't hear much of the crowd at all. Also went to the Olympics Women's football final -- who walked out at the medal presentation afterwards --Sepp Blatter the head of FIFA who said women footballers should wear tighter shorts -- 80 odd thousand shouting , booing whistling etc.. could you hear it on the BBC ? no. So I suspect this just happens to be one of those cases where the guys weren't ready with the clean up in time.

Well, he did say when he first took the job something along the lines of

In six months I'll be the most unpopular chancellor ever

Now he's achieved his prophecy, he can't very well look narked when he gets booed in public.

being as it was the subversives at C4 i don't think it was a mistake in not cleaning the footage up. i am trying to get some raw footage from a friend who works for OBS at the media centre

there's footage all over twitter tbh, we watched a bit last night when we got home to make sure we hadn't been kidding ourselves that it was the whole stadium. It was like a ripple going round as people realised who it was.
