To be fair to George Osborne he did warn before the 2010 general election that whoever won that election would become the most unpopular government ever, due to having to sort out the financial mess that the previous government had left behind. He is proving himself right, but people do have short memories don't they!

Yes- but they haven't started cutting yet. All they have done to date is stop the investment expenditure. The cutting comes in the next few years if they have the courage to actually do it.

They only have three years to achieve that. The next election will probably see labour returned on a slim majority, then the policy of overspending will start all over again.

I know, you've even forgotten to mention the credit crunch/recession brought about by a global banking crisis (which was the major cause of the "finacial mess").

Also it was a worldwide audience that can now see what the UK public really think of the government cut backs.

And the Olympics/Paralympics are supposed to rise above politics - even the North Koreans are there - and athletes who have tried to use them as a platform for political messages get sanctioned. Its done now but I just think its a shame the crowd had to politicise it in that way. There have been plenty of other politicians from here and abroad involved and if everyone started expressing their party political feelings towards them the whole thing would degenerate pretty quickly. YMMV.

It wasn't the crowd who politicised, it was the Tories who politicised by putting Osborne there. It was clearly done (by the Tories) as a political stunt, which backfired.

It was the presence of politicians that politicised it. The crowd would have been very just happy to applaud the athletes. And I think the spontaneous boo-then-hiss demonstrated that clearly.
