Out with the bike club this morning, one of my fellow riders, a keen local historian, mentioned that a house we'd just ridden past, was at different times, occupied by both Oscar Wilde and Bomber Harris.
There then ensued a discussion as to whether they'd have been compatible housemates had they lived there together. The consensus was that Bomber would have kicked Oscar out PDQ and possibly have thrashed him to within an inch of his life.
We were also fairly certain that Oscar would not have been able to mastermind Britain's area bombing tactics during World War Two, had they swapped roles, but neither would Bomber have been able to pen 'Lady Windermere's Fan', even though his famous quote:- 'they sowed the wind and now they are going to reap the whirlwind' was quite poetic and articulate. Dresden, as it was, would be still standing though.
Please name other incompatible housemates and give an example of how different might today's world be if they had done each others' job.
